Have your say: New building regulations for apartments
The Victorian Government is delivering a suite of reforms which aim to help Victorians build, renovate or buy a home with confidence.
As part of the building reform program, the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) is proposing two key changes targeted at new apartment buildings and other residential buildings:
The introduction of a building manual which collates key information and documentation on the design, construction and maintenance of buildings.
The introduction of two additional mandatory inspections during construction, with a focus on the building frame prior to internal plastering or lining and on waterproofing.
These proposals aim to reduce the prevalence of non-compliant building work, identify and rectify non-compliant work when it does occur, and to support ongoing building maintenance. These changes are part of a broader program of reform to better protect Victorians - and their homes.
