It’s electrifying!

LID Consulting recently completed research and a business case for two existing apartment blocks in North Melbourne to get off gas, go all-electric, and incorporate solar PV and EV (electric vehicle) infrastructure.

Through this project, they learned:

  • These particular buildings have a low capacity electrical supply from the street because gas has always been used for space heating, hot water, gas ovens and gas cooktops. An electrical upgrade is required and various options should be considered

  • Solar panels can readily be incorporated to optimise onsite generated power and share electricity to apartment dwellers - not just common area power. The two buildings can incorporate 83kW

  • There are simple value measures that can have a big impact in reducing carbon emissions and operating costs

  • Heating accounts for a large portion of occupants’ energy use.

LID Consulting will be joining us at the Expo to tell us more about what they learned and how it might help your apartment community to upgrade to all-electric.

The owners in this building are doing a feasibility study on what it would take to go all-electric.

Why should we go all-electric?

Gas is a fossil fuel that contributes to climate change. Electricity can be generated from renewable sources.

Victoria is now generating 40% of its electricity from renewable sources, like solar. And we’re on track to meet future targets of 65% renewables by 2030 and 95% by 2035. Upgrading to all-electric makes you part of our zero-carbon, clean energy future.

Gas prices and gas supply charges have recently risen dramatically and are predicted to continue to rise. This means upgrading to all-electric also saves money.

In Victoria for January 2024, all new homes must be all-electric. To stay relevant in the market, communities in older buildings with gas connections will need to consider making the switch to all-electric in the coming years.

Just another taste of what you’ll get at the High Life Expo.
